Good News from Valley Central Middle School

 
  • Over 40% of middle school students made the Honor Roll for the third quarter. We are very proud of our students' accomplishments. (Updated May 7th)
  • The annual Student Recognition Dinner was held on Thursday, May 2nd. Students were recognized by the faculty and staff for their hard work and achievement throughout the year. Over two hundred people were in attendance. (Updated May 7th)
  • Our 6th graders and physical education classes were able to expeirence the Above and Beyond Basketball Stunt Team Event early this week. Along with 12th Rock, these groups presented an assembly including slam dunks and Alley-oops. The group brought an inspirational message on the effects of bullying and choosing love as a foundation for our lives. (Updated May 2nd)  
  • Over forty percent of the middle school made the Honor Roll for the third quarter. We are very proud of their accomplishments. Please check a complete list of students via the guidance website. (Updated May 2nd)
  • Congratulations to Katherine Cavallucci and Morgan Maier who competed with sixteen other stduents representing their respective schools throughout Orange County in the annual Orange-Ulster Spelling Contest. Katherine placed 2nd and Morgan placed 3rd overall. We are very proud of their accomplishments!
  • Two students were selected through the county-wide All County auditions for the 2013 J.H. All-County Band. Congratulations to Anna Derevensky on trumpet and Rebecca Kramer on percussion! They will be performing on May 2nd at Monroe Woodbury High School with the top 7th, 8th, and 9th grade band, chorus and orchestra students in the county! (Updated March 27th)
  • The "Night of Specials" was held on Thursday, March 21st in the middle school. There were musical performances as well as art, technology, health, and Home and Career displays. Thank you to all that participated! (Updated March 27th)
  • The Valley Central Middle School Spelling Bee finals were held on Tuesday, February 5th. First, second, and third place winners will be awarded school plaques at the June award assemblies. Congratualations to our winners! Grade 7- 1st place- Morgan Maier, 2nd place- Charlotte Washington, 3rd place- Joelle Michetti. Grade 8- 1st place- Katie Cavallucci, 2nd place- Ben Kallus, 3rd place- Carina Diaz.

  • The Valley Central 2012-2013 Dream Team took on the police and fire department this past Friday. It was a great community event and everyone had a good time as we teamed up to support our PTSA's fund-raising event to support Rachel's Challenge. Thank you to all who participated!   • Congratulations to Carolyn Wesenberg who was nominated for the PTA Volunteer of the Year! A ceremony was held on February 6th to celebrate her accomplishments. In addition, Clare Ciardullo received the PTA Founder’s Award. Clare has served the district for over forty years as the district cafeteria manager. Congratulations to both on these well-deserved awards! (Updated Feb. 13th)
  • The 6th grade Gold team had pilot John Kahr speak to the students about his experiences as a pilot. Mr. Kahr is retired from the Air Force and is currently a pilot for a commercial airline. Mr. Kahr spoke about his experiences which lead up to his present position as well as his many exciting experiences that comes along with being a pilot. Thank you, Mr. Kahr, for sharing your expertise with our students! (Updated Feb. 13th)

  • Valley Central Middle School had 46 students nominated for Student of the Month in December. Students are nominated when they do their best, lend a helping hand, or put a smile on the faces of others around them. Thank you, Mrs. McCarthy, for organizing this for our well-deserving students each month.
  • Block 33A was nominated as Bus of the Month in November for their exemplary behavior. Three students from that bus were randomly chosen to receive $10 gift certificates of their choice. The Bus of the Month program is underwritten by our PTA. (Updated Dec. 15th)
  • The Friends of Rachel club collected several car loads of presents to send to the victims of Hurricane Sandy. This toy drive was entirely student initiated. We are very proud of their accomplishments. (Updated Dec. 14th)
  • The select chorus visited Montgomery Nursing Home to sing Christmas carols and to visit with the residents there. The students sang beautifully and brought many smiles to the faces of the residents. Great job! (Updated Dec. 14th)
  • The Valley Central Middle School held their 4th annual Career Day for 8th graders. Several careers were represented such as veterinary, publishing, horticulture, and several others. The event is a day in which the students begin to realize that the basic skills they are presently learning will help them reach their goals and prepare them for their future role as working adults.   • Valley Central Middle School just held their Winter Concerts. The students did a wonderful job in performing many challenging pieces. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication! (Updated Dec. 5th)
  • The National Junior Honor Society went to see the play War Horse on November 28th at Lincoln Center. The play was based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo. It was well worth the trip! 
  • The middle school just recently held their American Education Week. Over sixty parents came in to visit the school and to visit classes. Thank you to those parents who participated!
  • Valley Central Middle School students and staff collected goods to send to victims of hurricane Sandy.
  • A few classes in the middle school decorated the middle school sign in front of our building. Thank you to Mrs. DeGraw, Mrs. Van Vlack, and Ms. Circosta's classes for making our school look great! (October 18th)
  • The middle school and high school just recently had their Rachel's Challenge assembly. Approximately 90 students and 30 adults took part in the event. The themes to this year's event were: 1) Words have power 2) Love each other and show it 3) Take off your mask 4) Be free to be yourself 5)You are not alone. It was a great event and we look forward to seeing how this event makes a positive impact on our school's culture and climate. We are grateful to our PTA who sponsored this event.   • Our Modified sports teams are having a great start to their year. The teams offered this year are: boys' soccer, girls' soccer, cross country, football, and girls' volleyball.
  • Several clubs are offered and have started up this year. They are: the 8th Grade Art Club, Jazz Band, NJHS, Select Chorus, Service Club, V.C. Spirit, and the Yearbook Club.
  • We had a great turn-out for our Open House. Thank you to all of those who came to be a part of it. I also want to thank the teachers and staff who made it a success. We are excited about this new school year! (updated Sept. 14th)
