Viking Induction Program

The Valley Central School District is proud of its attempt to recognize and address the needs of faculty new to our system and to have joined the ranks of school districts which are making a concerted effort to focus attention on their new faculty. It has been exciting to have Valley Central administrators and members of the Valley Central Teachers' Union join together to ensure the success of our newest professional staff. Since 2004, the Viking Induction Program has been making a difference that can be felt throughout the District.
Valley Central ususally conducts a three-day induction for new faculty in August which centers on the theme, "Building for a Better Tomorrow" and a two-day induction for second year faculty which centers on the theme "On the Road Again". Due to staffing cuts and financial constraints, the 2011-12 Viking Induction Program will be a day and a half in length and is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 17th - Thursday, August 18th.
The opportunity to work with staff prior to the start of school is an invaluable experience for administrators, current staff and new hires.
"I was extremely pleased with the pace and the practicality of the topics offered.
I especially enjoyed having teachers co-presenting.
Nothing like role models to inspire professionalism!"

Excitement fills the air as the final touches are being made for the start of the new school year. The beginning of school is a magical time. William Butler Yeats says, "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." By acquainting Inductees with the people, policies and resources of the school district, as well as providing them with procedural and instructional strategies, we hope that the Viking Induction Program serves as the "spark" that will ignite professional success.
