Absences Each parent or legal guardian should telephone the school in the event that a child is to be absent. To ascertain accuracy, schools will contact parents of students who are absent when no call has been received. NOTES:Written notes are required for each absence or lateness and are to be submitted to the secretary in the school's main office. Every excuse should state the date and reason for absence. Without a written note, absences will be recorded as unexcused. APPOINTMENTS: Notes are also required for medical, dental, optical, or other appointments which occur during school hours. A student may be released early (upon request from parent plus administrative approval) or attend school after the appointment (with a note from parent). Partial instruction is better than none, however, the student will be marked as having arrived late. A student being dismissed during the school day must be "signed out" by the parent and will be marked as leaving early. Emergency Closing of Schools In addition to the above, we post inclement weather information on the VCSD web site The same information can be accessed by calling the district wide telephone number, 457-2400. Since emergency conditions frequently overload telephone and broadcast communications, we are not always able to make the necessary station contact. Parents are advised in certain instances to refer to more than one station. Whenever you are in doubt about the schools being open, you are urged to follow the above procedures. In certain emergency situations, students may be transported to another building in the district. Report Cards Report cards will be issued in November, February, April, and June. Parent conferences will be provided in late November. The following represents a letter grade and the numerical equivalent:
School Lunch Program The cost of lunch in the Elementary schools is $2.35. Milk may be purchased for 60 cents. A la carte items may also be purchased. Lunch Menu We expect that students will exhibit good manners in the cafeteria, and we ask parents to make a very special point of this with their children. School Day 9:15 am - 3:30 pm. Students should not be on school grounds before 9:00 am. Transportation For safety reasons it is important that children display proper conduct at bus stops as well as on the bus. Each year, bus conduct rules & safety procedures are reviewed with all classes.
