The VCSD Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Thursday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the board room at central office for a presentation regarding a proposed traffic and parking lot reconfiguration plan.
Please be advised that for three days during the district’s scheduled spring break (March 26, 27, 28), the county’s Office of Emergency Management, in conjunction with FEMA and Entergy will conduct a drill at the Valley Central Middle and High School campus. The drill will not impact scheduled activities such as sports practice or construction work and residents can expect to see ambulances, fire trucks and other emergency vehicles on scene as drill participants.
On Sunday, March 4, 2018 the Valley Central Elementary Special Olympics Basketball and Soccer Skills team competed in the local competition at Orange-Ulster BOCES in Goshen.
Despite losing multiple rehearsals to inclement weather, and having a three-hour delay on opening night, the “pride” of EC gave a rousing performance of Disney’s “The Lion King Jr.” on March 8 and 9. Since September, the students have been rehearsing twice, and then three, times per week.
The Valley Central School District has used six snow days for the 2017-18 school year as of March 9. NYS Regulations require students to be in attendance for 176 days and staff for 180 days. In order to meet that requirement, it is necessary to utilize the make up days on our district calendar
On Friday, February 22, the members of the Dusenberry Flannery VFW 2064 as well as the members of the auxiliary visited the class to celebrate the students' Random Acts of Patriotism (RAP).
Throughout February, the Montgomery Elementary School (MES) anti-bullying team, along with students and staff spread some love throughout the building in celebration of the month’s character trait, kindness.
We will continue in our efforts as a district to implement and practice our safety on a regular basis- keeping doors locked, maintain reminders about safety drills etc. It is important for students, parents and staff to be diligent in if they hear something or see something say something to administration or the authorities.
Over the next few weeks, visitors to the Valley Central Middle School/High School campus may notice personnel operating as traffic counters and surveying areas at the campus and along route 17K.
Only those children who will be five years old on or before December 1, 2018 will be enrolled for the fall of 2018. Parents should call their local elementary school as soon as possible to assure their child’s name is on the mailing list to receive registration information.

For the past 13 years, Valley Central School District has held a “Wear Red Dress Down Day” on “National Wear Red Day” to raise money to support the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign. Last year, the district raised the highest amount of funds it ever raised for the cause in a single year, bringing the district’s lifetime donation amount to the American Heart Association (AHA) past the $20k mark. This year, the district beat its own record, raising a total of $2,232.
Unified sports is a registered program of the Special Olympics in partnership with the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, which strives to provide inclusive sports experiences for all students, regardless of ability. Teams are comprised of “athletes” (students with intellectual disabilities) and “partners” (students without intellectual disabilities) and together, they play on the court (or field, or lane, or track).
From Feb. 5 through Feb. 12, students will collect canned goods and other non-perishable food items to benefit the Montgomery Food Pantry.
The Regular Meeting of the Board of Education scheduled for Tuesday, April 3, 2018 has been rescheduled for Monday, April 9, 2018 at 6:30 p.m.
There will be a Special Meeting of the Board of Education on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 5:30 p.m., for the purpose of viewing the teacher mentor presentations. No action is anticipated.

Exciting News…With the help of your electronic votes, Montgomery Elementary School has WON the $25,000 Grant Competition! Thanks to the teamwork of our community, we placed #1 out of 77 schools with 21,977 votes.
On a date to be determined in May, the Project Fit Team, sponsored by Dannon/ShopRite, will be visiting Montgomery Elementary School for our Golden Shovel Ground Breaking Ceremony.

On January 30th 2017, the Valley Central Board of Education approved the Smart Schools Investment Plan. Smart Schools funding as proposed in the SSIP will allow Valley Central to invest in network infrastructure upgrades as well as improved video and door security technologies.
