Important Message February 24, 2020
On Sunday night (February 23, 2020), at approximately 7:30PM, middle school parents notified the school
staff of a picture posted on a student's social media account of a weapon along with a
threat towards the middle school. Within a short amount of time the Town of
Montgomery Police Department was notified and began an investigation. Within an hour
the police determined that there was no credible threat. The District is currently working
alongside the police department to investigate this further.
I would like to thank all of those involved and reinforce the importance of good
communication. Information sharing between students, parents, the police department,
and the staff is paramount to a safe school community. I would like to commend all of
those involved and thank everyone involved for the exceptional communication and
professionalism in handling this situation. While this is a difficult and frightening situation
I am happy to be a part of a community and staff that looks out for one another.
We will continue to monitor this situation and provide the emotional support for students
as this matter is addressed.
Please use this time to discuss with your child the importance of sharing concerning
information, especially when it concerns social media. We all must be diligent in
speaking to our children about what they see and post and the impact that it could have.
I am proud to be a part of such a caring community. Thank you for your help and please
do not hesitate to reach out to a staff member with any questions or concerns.
