Shane Kelly was looking forward to enjoying a classroom party on November 25, 2019. It was the highlight of his day. He couldn’t imagine how it would be any better–until he found out he was the recipient of an all-expenses-paid trip to Walt Disney World!
Families In Arms, Inc. is an organization that raises funds to send children who live with autism with their families to Disney World. Their mission is to give families of children with Autism the opportunity to create memories that go far beyond the walls of therapy.
Alonna Rubin and her father, Rick, from Families in Arms, Inc. traveled to VCMS on Monday, November 25, 2019, to gift Shane Kelly and his family a trip of a lifetime to Disney World. Shane was nominated for this by his 6th-grade teacher, Karen Gonyo. She had nearly forgotten about the nomination. But Families in Arms, Inc. tries to get to every family nominated, so they reached out to make the arrangement to come to VC and personally tell Shane!
Shane’s reaction began with disbelief. He was just happy for someone in the room to be going to Disney. His mother was with him; she also thought she was coming in for a classroom party. The family received a 5 night, 6 days stay at a Disney Resort with park tickets and meals included. Airfare and gift cards are also part of the package that Shane received. He was beyond thrilled when Alonna Rubin told him that he would be going to Disney thanks to Mrs. Gonyo.
Mrs. Gonyo’s letter stated that Shane deserved to be considered by Families in Arms, Inc. because Shane is always willing to help anyone with a smile on his face. This surprise certainly made all of Valley Central smile- have a wonderful trip, Shane. Thank you to Families in Arms, Inc. for such a happy day.
