Apply for Racial and Social Equity Committee for the 2021-2022 School Year

Applications are being accepted for the District’s Racial and Social Equity Committee until 5PM on Thursday, June 10, 2021.

This advisory committee was established by the Board of Education with the goal to drive accountability for our schools with respect to the fair and inclusive treatment of all students. The committee meets monthly and helps guide the district’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts with regard to professional development, curriculum, school climate, the Code of Conduct, and the recruitment, hiring, and retention of a workforce that best meets the needs of our students.

Each year, the terms of half of the students, parents, community members, and school staff who serve on the committee expire so that others may have the opportunity to join. Current members whose terms have expired may re-apply to serve another term.

The committee is currently seeking the following to join the committee next September.

  • three parents, community members, or recent graduates

  • two students (currently in 7th-11th grades)

  • one high school teacher

  • one middle school teacher

  • one elementary teacher

  • one non-instructional elementary staff member

Once all applications have been received, they will be reviewed anonymously by a panel of students and staff, who will then vote for their preferred applicants. If you would like to join the committee, please submit an online application before the 5PM deadline on June 10, 2021. Successful applicants will serve as members on the committee throughout the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years.

The students, parents, community members, and staff on the committee are joined by three school administrators, a Central Office administrator, the Superintendent of Schools, and a Board of Education representative.

The committee’s monthly meetings take place on Thursday evenings. The first meeting next school year will be on September 9, 2021 from 6PM-7:30PM. For more information about the committee, please refer to the committee’s page on the District website.
