NYSED Guidance on Cancelled Regents and Diploma Requirements

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today that schools in New York will remain closed until April 29 to minimize the spread of the Coronavirus. Valley Central’s new On-line Instructional Plan goes into effect on Wednesday,
April 15, 2020. If your child still does not have access to a device or to the internet, please reach out to your building principal right away.
Valley Central teachers will focus on essential standards for their grade level or course. Teachers will track participation and completion of all assignments and will assign grades to this new material. Grading is explained below and further information will be provided as soon as we receive more guidance from the State Education Department.

At today’s Board of Regents meeting, Chancellor Rosa announced that the June Regents exams are canceled. Additional guidance on this matter will be released tomorrow afternoon and we will provide an update as soon as the information is available. As you can see, we are provided with new information daily and we will continue to inform you as soon as we receive it.

Google Classroom, Google Meet, and/or email, will be the primary methods of instruction and communication used with our new instructional plan. Your child’s teacher will contact you with specific information. The District will
be providing instruction and services to students with disabilities pursuant to each student’s IEP to the extent it is feasible and in compliance with federal, state and local authorities’ directives.

Please reach out to the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, building principals, and your child’s teachers with questions. Questions regarding special education should be directed to the director of special education.
