WELCOME TO REMEDIAL READING
Welcome to the Reading room. Students who receive remedial services have qualified according to scores on NYS Reading tests and district-wide reading tests. They may also qualify according to teacher recommendation.
We will be spending our time reading many books, articles, and any content related topics in grades K-5. Not only do we read, we also write responses on what we've read. This allows students to see the reading-writing connection as one, instead of two separate activities. We spend time discussing stories to deepen student's understanding of what was just read.
Students are either pulled out of the classroom in small groups or I push in to the classroom and work with qualifying students. I keep in touch with the classroom teacher in order for us to "compare notes" and make sure we agree on the progress of each student in the program.
Progress reports are sent home four times a year at report card time; November, January, April, and June. Parents are welcome to see me in November at report card conference time or call and schedule a time that is convenient for you.
