January 22nd Letter to the Superintendent Re: COVID-19

Dear Valley Central School Community,

Now that students are back in the school buildings, the Valley Central School District will send home correspondence about COVID 19 positive cases that result in students and staff being quarantined and/or result in a building being closed.  While there may be additional cases reported on the dashboard, we will only send home notices of those positive cases that affect in-person students and staff.

On the night of January 21st we were made aware of a staff member at East Coldenham Elementary School that tested positive for COVID 19. We have been in  contact with the Orange County Department of Health (OCDOH) to assist them with the identification and contact of the staff members and parents/guardians of all students that were probable direct, close or proximate contacts with the infected individual in the classroom/school building or on the school bus.  The OCDOH will make the final determination as to who is considered a close or proximate contact.

The building has been cleaned and disinfected in accordance with the guidance of the New York State Department of Health.

We will continue to keep our school community informed regarding how this virus is affecting our schools.  We will continue to communicate changes and updates with you.

Thank you,

John Xanthis

Superintendent of Schools
