January 23rd Letter from the Superintendent Re: COVID-19

We were notified today, January 23rd, that a Valley Central Middle School student tested positive for COVID 19.  This will affect the Eighth Grade Blue Team. All Eight Grade Blue Team Students will be on remote instruction through Friday, January 29, 2021.  Students needing to quarantine will be contacted on Monday, January 25th.  Middle School staff affected will be contacted by the building administration this weekend.

When the Orange County Department of Health (OCDOH) opens on Monday, we will be in  close contact with them to assist with the identification and contact of the parents/guardians of all students that were probable direct, close or proximate contacts with the infected individual in the classroom/school building or on the school bus.  The OCDOH will make the final determination as to who is considered a close or proximate contact.

In addition,  yesterday we were notified that a staff member at East Coldenham Elementary School tested positive for COVID 19.  Students and staff members needing to quarantine were notified.

The buildings will be cleaned and disinfected in accordance with the guidance of the New York State Department of Health.

We will continue to keep our school community informed regarding how this virus is affecting our schools.  We will continue to communicate changes and updates with you.

Thank you,

John Xanthis

Superintendent of Schools
