Letter to 8th Grade Parents From the Principal

As difficult as the last year has been due to the pandemics in our Nation and throughout the World, I continue to be amazed and humbled by the resiliency of this community and our students. In many ways, the current 8th graders have been pioneers in unchartered territory and they have done so with great flexibility, endurance and perseverance. The pandemic has taught all of us many lessons but on the forefront is learning to adapt to continual change and making adjustments to the best of plans. No matter the twists or turns, we are very proud of all of the students at Valley Central Middle School and especially the 8th graders as they prepare to move on to the High School in the fall.

With the continually changing guidelines from New York State and the Department of Health, the Middle School team has been working at each turn to ensure student safety and to creatively reinvent some of the traditional celebrations for our students. We wanted to share with our families and students the end of the year events we are planning to celebrate over the next few months for the 8th grade Class of 2021. We are also asking that each family take a moment to complete the following short survey so we can plan and accommodate for the numbers of participants for both the Recognition Ceremony and the Dance.

8th Grade Recognition Ceremony & Dance Initial Sign Up

For each of the listed events, more detailed information will be provided as we finalize details and dates.

National Junior Honor Society Inductions- Monday, May 24 & Tuesday, May 25 – current 8th graders & 7th graders- student in-person, live streamed & recorded for families. Information
will be shared from the NJHS Advisors.

8th Grade Awards Night – Tuesday, June 8th- for select students and families who are recipients of outside and in-school donor awards.

8th Grade Recognition Ceremony – Date TBD- students will be recognized and receive their congratulatory certificates while walking across a stage; a drive-through event that will include family members.

8th Grade Dance – Tuesday, June 22 & Wednesday, June 23 (2 dates will be needed to accommodate the number of students)- for all 8th Graders who would like to attend. We will provide a PickATime sign up so students can participate with their friend groups.

We are excited to be celebrating the hard work and success of our 8th graders. Thank you for everyone’s continued support and patience as we work through these unprecedented times.
