May 27th: COVID-19 Co-ordinator’s Update

I am happy to announce that we are now on our third straight week with no COVID 19 positive cases to report. I could not be happier about the dropping positivity percentages and I am just as eager as everyone for a return to normal

Valley Central School District continues to follow all NYSDOH and NYSED rules, protocols, and guidelines.

Per the April 2021 NYSDOH Interim guidance for schools,  “Responsible parties must maintain protocols and procedures for students, faculty, staff, and other individuals to ensure appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is used to protect against the transmission of the COVID-19 virus when on school grounds and in school facilities. Specifically, appropriate PPE means, at least, an acceptable mask, which is required to be worn by all individuals in all classroom and non-classroom settings, including but not limited to hallways, school offices, restrooms, gyms, auditoriums, etc.”  School sponsored events, per the NYSDOH, such as field days and field trips, are required to meet the guidelines set forth by NYSDOH related to schools as mentioned above.

NYSDOH Guidance this week states that children ages 2-5 years of age are encouraged but no longer required to wear a mask in daycare, summer camps, and child care programs. This new guidance does not affect any of our schools / students currently.

Schools must continue to follow all guidance by the NYSDOH.

Students and staff, when 6 feet apart outside, may take off their masks for mask breaks.  If seated outside 6 feet apart or eating, they may take off their masks.

All students and staff are allowed mask breaks. With the warmer weather, mask breaks will be more frequent and classes may be held outside if spacing is appropriate.

At this time the Valley Central School District is making plans for the 2021-2022 school year. It is our intent to bring all students back to 100% in person learning.  We will send out more information as guidance is provided from the state.
