May 3: Coronavirus Update

From Michael Bellarosa, Deputy Superintendent

As you know, Governor Cuomo announced on Friday that schools in NYS will not be able to resume classes this academic year. On behalf of the Valley Central School District, we want to thank you again for all of your continued support and the amazing way our community has responded to this crisis.  I want to begin by saying that I hope you all had the chance to enjoy a weekend of long awaited Spring weather.  There is no doubt that we have earned it this year.

We are doing our best to address the many questions that you have going forward.  Both the food distribution and the Day Care Program for essential workers will continue for the remainder of the school year.  Please contact us if you have any questions about either of these programs.  Our Food Service Workers, our District Custodians, our nurses and our Volunteers have all been amazing and we want to thank you all for all that you do each day to make these programs possible.

Most importantly, we want to assure you that we are committed to honoring the many amazing achievements of the Class of 2020 and we will not allow this to take away from all that they deserve.  There are many meetings and conversations about Moving Up Days, Graduations, and all of our Valley Central traditions.  You will be hearing from your principals very soon concerning plans for these events.

Finally, we want to say to all our students and parents, that your teachers remain committed to do their absolute best under the circumstances to provide the opportunity for a continued learning experience for all of our students.  We understand how difficult this has been for parents and students but you have done great.  As we approach Teacher Appreciation Day this week, there is no better way to say Thank you to our teachers, then by supporting their efforts and doing your best to get everything you can from what they are able to offer to you for the remainder of the academic year.  These are lessons of a lifetime.

We will continue to share information and answer questions as decisions are made and we will also update you on changes to the budget votes and school board election that has also been impacted by the Executive Order.  Thank you again and please do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything we can do to help you.
