MES Reopening Procedures

Chalk message on Sidewalk "MES STRONG"
MES is ready for Returning to Learning

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! As you know, school will look a bit different this year. We plan to do our best to provide you with clear and concise information upon our return. Our plan is intended to ensure the safety of our students and staff, while continuing to provide a high quality education for your child/ren. This document will outline arrival/dismissal, lunch, and general hand washing/sanitizing procedures.

“Resilience is based on compassion for ourselves as well as compassion for others.” ~ Sharon Saltzberg

MES Reopening Procedures

Walker Arrival (Temperatures will be taken daily upon arrival for each student)

TEMPERATURE CHECKS – Staff will be stationed on the sidewalk by Door 14, for grades 4-5,  and on the sidewalk by the “Kinder-garden” for grades K-3.  We ask that you escort your child to the temperature taking station and wait for their clearance to enter the building before returning to your car or leaving school grounds.  Please allow for additional time during drop off.

ONLY ONE – Students will enter the building one at a time at all entry locations and will report directly to class.

FOOD – Breakfast will be “Grab-and-Go” for those who eat breakfast at school. These students will go directly to the cafeteria, get breakfast, then proceed directly to class to eat breakfast. Students who arrive at 8:45 am for breakfast will be temperature checked outside the main entrance of the building.

ARRIVAL DOORS – To request a chart of Arrival/Dismissal Doors, please email jane.malley@vcsdny.org.  Please reference the chart for proper drop-off and pick-up locations. Thank you.

Bus Arrival (Temperatures to be taken daily upon arrival for each student)

Students will be required to wear a mask while riding the bus.

TEMPERATURE CHECKS – Temperatures will be taken as students are dismissed from their bus one at a time.

ONLY ONE – Students will enter the building one at a time at all entry locations and will report directly to class.

FOOD – Breakfast will be “Grab-and-Go” for those who eat breakfast at school. These students will go directly to the cafeteria, get breakfast, then report directly to class.

Late Students – Main Entrance (Door #1).

Please ring the bell and have your ID ready.  The greeter will then buzz your child in the front door. Please note that parents/visitors are not provided with access to the school building. The Greeter (or designated staff member) will sign your child in and notify the teacher that the child has arrived and is proceeding to class.

We anticipate that these procedures will take time. We appreciate your patience with our staff!

Walker Dismissal

These procedures will remain similar to normal.  Students will be escorted to their dismissal door by a staff member.  Once a parent or guardian is identified the student will be released.  We ask that you wear a mask and maintain social distancing while waiting for your child.  Please allow for additional time during pick-up and have your ID ready.  Thank you.
