Nov. 6th Letter from the Superintendent Regarding COVID-19

This is an update on the COVID 19 issues surrounding the Valley Central School District.

As you already know, on the evening of November 5, 2020, the District was made aware that a Valley Central Middle School teacher tested positive for COVID 19. The Middle School building was closed today and all students were instructed via online instruction while the building was deep cleaned. We worked collaboratively with the Orange County DOH to be sure that all those affected were contacted.

The Valley Central Middle School building will reopen on Monday, November 9, 2020, for everyone except the 7th Grade Gold Team. The 7th Grade Gold Team 1 (M/Th) will return on November 23, 2020.  The 7th Grade Gold Team 2 (T/F) will return on November 20, 2020. The 7th Grade Gold Team will receive online instruction as per the normal schedule during this time. Please be sure your child attends all of his/her Google Meets and completes all assignments.

The Valley Central High School building has been closed to all students except for Team In person. All students except for Team In-person have been receiving online instruction. Team 1 (M/Th) may return to the High School building on November 12, 2020.  Team 2 (T/F) will return to the High School Building on November 10, 2020.

Today we were made aware that two Valley Central High School students tested positive for COVID 19, however, this had absolutely no effect on the District.

We are aware that there is a discrepancy between the amount of in-person instruction that Team 1 has received and that Team 2 has received.  With the various building closures, this is difficult to control. We plan on addressing this disparity during the second semester.

We will continue to keep our school community informed regarding how this virus is affecting our schools. Our priority is to inform the Orange County Department of Health and those families and staff that may have been exposed first. Please do not rely on social media commentary for information.  You should contact the District or your school if you have questions, but please understand that, due to medical privacy laws, we are not able to release the names of the individual(s) with COVID-19. We will continue to communicate changes and updates with you.  With your participation, we believe we can create a safe and engaging experience for your children.
