Valley Central School District has received clarification from the Orange County Department of Health regarding the wearing of masks.

Staff and Students will be required to wear masks at all times inside the buildings; however, there will be frequent, controlled “mask breaks”.  It is expected that all  staff and students will wear masks or face coverings that cover from the bridge of their nose to under their chin.  No one will be allowed entry into a building without a mask.  The District will offer a mask to anyone without a mask.

As to the question about students eating meals with regards to mask-wearing, masks will not be worn when seated and  actually eating.    Just like the current state protocols for restaurants, masks need to be in place when staff and students move around a cafeteria or break room being utilized for eating.

Staff will be  encouraged to try to utilize the outdoors as often as is possible with students as permitted by weather. When outside, masks do not need to be worn as long as the students maintain social distance.  If they do not, then they will wear the masks outside.

Social distancing protocols remain in place even when masks are worn.

All students will be required to wear masks on the bus.  If a student does not have a mask they will given a district provided mask by the bus driver to wear.
