Message from the Principal, Russell Burns:
Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that we are nearly half-way through the school year! Many terrific opportunities and activities have occurred this year in Valley Central Middle School and many are yet to come. The middle school just finished the winter concert season. Each year our parents are amazed at the progress their students make within a short period of time. Progress is shown each week as students dedicate themselves to excellence. We are proud of our music teachers and our young musicians!
As I write this, a group of students are currently being trained as Safe School Ambassadors. This research-based program is being offered in conjunction with our local BOCES to equip students in conflict-resolution strategies. This program empowers students with the skills necessary to prevent and stop bullying and harassment. These life-skills will, no doubt, help these students throughout their lives and in the lives of those that they influence.
The middle school continues to provide an in-house training regarding culturally responsive instruction. The research surrounding this concept shows that schools who are culturally responsive better address the needs of their students. An educational consultant, Dr. Gess LeBlanc, has been meeting with students and teachers to assist us with this important initiative. We are grateful for the opportunity to have these conversations. As always, please reach out if we can be of any help.

6th Grade Field Trip
The 6th grade’s trip to the Museum of Natural History was a hit! From early humans to plate tectonics, dinosaurs to mummies, and everything in between, our students were able to engage with history and science brought to life on an epic scale! Several staff members at the museum complimented our middle school on their great behavior. That kind of feedback makes us all VC Proud! Thank you to all of the chaperones who helped make this ambitious field trip a possibility and an overwhelming success. We look forward to our June trip to Medieval Times!
