April 6, 2016 - Valley Central student wins Design a Sun Catcher contest
Gillinder Glass Store, located in Port Jervis, New York, recently announced that CTE
student Joe Dolan, a junior from Valley Central High School and the
Digital Design and Advertising Program at the Orange-Ulster BOCES Career and
Technical Education Center, is the winner of its 2016 Design a Sun
Catcher contest. Gillinder Glass also acknowledged Joe's CTE
instructor, Derek Diaz, who has dedicated his professional
career to inspiring and guiding thousands of Digital Design and Advertising
students during his tenure as a teacher at the Career and Technical Education
year's theme, American Patriotism, inspired Joe's USA/Eagle design. The in-house mold shop at Gillinder Glass will create a mold from
Joe's design, and when the mold is ready, Joe will be invited to the glass
factory in Port Jervis to press the first sun catcher of his winning design!
anticipated release date of the sun catcher is, appropriately, on or around July
4th. This year saw a record 160 submissions in the Design a Sun Catcher
