May 17, 2016 - Valley Central voters approve $98.5 million budget; elect three board members

On May 17, Valley Central School District voters approved the district’s $98.5 million 2016-17 budget proposal and elected three board of education members.


Voters approved:

  • A $98,533,456 budget for the 2016-17 school year that increases spending 1.91 percent ($1,846,191) and carries a 0.48 percent tax levy increase: 1177 yes;  434 no;


Five candidates sought election to three open board of education seats. They are:

  • Chris Ann Harper: 519 votes;
  • Sarah Messing: 1137 votes;
  • Incumbent Bradley Conklin: 884 votes;
  • Nicole Estrada: 373 votes;
  • Joseph Byrne: 977 votes


The terms are three years, beginning July 1 and will be filled by Sarah Messing, Joseph Byrne and Bradley Conklin.


“I’d like to thank the voters of Valley Central for taking the time out of their busy days to exercise their right to vote,” said Interim Superintendent John Xanthis. “I believe that this budget will enhance and enrich the services that we already offer our students, positioning them for success in the classroom and beyond.”
