Jan. 12, 2016 - "Mannequin Challenge" enhances art lesson
On the surface, the "Mannequin Challenge" trend may not seem to have much to do with the Impressionist art movement of the 19th centrury, but there is an undeniable connection between the two of showcasing a snapshot of an active scene. The Mannequin Challenge is a viral internet trend where participants film a group of people frozen in action. The impressionist movement broke away from the traditional, posed European style of painting and instead focused on more ordinary subject matter with light and movement being emphasized.
Knowing that the students were apt to be excited to participate in a "Mannequin Challenge," Berea Elementary School Art Teacher, Kelly Brahm and Orange-Ulster BOCES Tech Integration Specialist, Christine Dworetsky, teamed up to create an engaging lesson on the impressionist movement.
