Walden Elementary Performs "Beauty and the Beast, Jr"

On March 27 and 28, Walden Elementary School was home to a “tale as old as time” The WES drama club, under the direction of Ms. Nina deRoziere performed the play, “Beauty and the Beast, Jr.” . Ms. deRoziere, who is the school’s Chorus teacher, directed the show and also designed the sets and was in charge of costumes.  Mr. Brian Ackley, WES Band teacher, was the Assistant Director. Erin Gilette and Arianna Santana choreographed the musical, including the difficult number of “Be our Guest”.

The leads were Alana Whitfield who played Belle and Calvin Butts who played the Beast.  The provincial French countryside and enchanted castle came to life under the lively performances of the supporting cast which included thirty two students.  There were nine students who were the crew helping to change the scenes flawlessly. The actual stage they performed on was recently donated by the Walden PTO and helped to transform the gymnasium into a Broadway venue.

“ I truly believe that music and theater make the world a better place and I strive to instill the love of both in my students,” Said deRoziere.  She said she hoped that the students will continue to be involved in music and theater throughout the rest of their school years. If they do, the VC community is certainly going to enjoy many great performances in the future!
