VC Graduate Nominated to Serve as Chief Naval Officer

Bill Moran, VCHS Class of 1977, and current Vice Chief of Naval Operationshas been nominated by President Trump to serve as Chief Naval Officer.

Bill is the son of Dr. William and Carol Moran.  Dr. Moran served as Valley Central School District superintendent for nearly twenty years.

Bill Moran, 60, has had a lifelong career in the Navy following his graduation from the Naval Academy in 1981. He began as an aviator hunting for Soviet submarines. He has had a successful career notably spearheading the “Sailor 2025” program which seeks to modernize the entire Naval personnel and training system.

His nomination to this position has widespread support through the Navy and he has been praised for his ability to think quickly, listen and understand any task at hand and then bring it to successful completion.  

Bill Moran has earned the Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal and other personal, unit and service awards over his years serving our country.  He has both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the National War College.
