The Valley Central School District acknowledges that it erroneously overstated the proposed tax impact of the Traffic, Safety and STEAM Bond vote in the notice that was mailed to community residents on August 13, 2019. Upon learning of the error, the District corrected the information on its website and attempted to inform the community via its social media accounts.
Superintendent John Xanthis said that he takes full responsibility for the oversight. “There were many people involved in putting this bond vote out and while it was looked over, it was just missed. But at the end of the day, I bear the responsibility, as I have the final approval of what was in the flyer.”
The Traffic, Safety and STEAM Bond was narrowly defeated by 30 votes. The Board and Administration will be discussing and reconsidering its options for addressing the proposed capital improvements contained in the bond proposal at future meetings.
