NYS' Master Teachers
Jennie Meehan Sexton has been a Science teacher at Valley Central High School for seventeen years. She has been an advisor to the National Honor Society and the Science National Honor Society. She teaches chemistry and Advanced Placement Chemistry. She is a VCHS graduate and holds her BS in Chemistry from Bucknell and her MS in Adolescence Education from Mount Saint Mary College.
The NYS Master Teacher Program was established by Governor Cuomo in partnership with SUNY and Math for America to strengthen STEM Education in the state. The NYS Master Teacher program consists of outstanding teachers who are recognized for their dedication to providing the most innovative STEM education to students, for their commitment to professional growth, and enthusiasm for sharing successful practices with colleagues in their schools, districts and regions.
Mrs. Sexton was chosen for this distinguished program last year and is gaining great experience which only strengthens her as a teacher. She said,
“Being a part of the Master Teacher Program has given me an opportunity to collaborate with STEM teachers around NYS to share best practices and learn from each other. After one year of participation I have experienced tremendous professional growth and I can’t wait to see what the next three years of participation bring my way!”
