VC Math Team is Currently in Lead in League

The VC Math Teams are part of the DUSO (Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Orange Counties) Math League.  We are in a section that competes against teams from Newburgh and Beacon. Valley Central has four teams that compete, consisting of five-member teams.  Beacon has three teams and Newburgh has two teams. All of the teams are competing against one another, even from the same school district. There are five meets in which we compete with our section, once a month from October until February.  The top placing team in the section gets to compete in a DUSO Math competition in March at Vassar College against all of the other section winners in the league. The Valley Central “A” team is currently leading the section, followed by the Beacon “A” team, as of the third meet that was done the first week of December.   All points earned in each competition are cumulative in determining the first place team in the section. Individual students can qualify to compete in a state meet based on total individual points earned, this year the state meet is in Middletown. Valley Central’s top individual performer at this point in the season is Patrick Conan, a senior on the VC A team.

Each meet consists of four rounds.

Round 1:  Two Algebra-level questions

Round 2:  Two Geometry-level questions

Round 3:  Two Algebra 2 or higher-level questions

Round 4:  A team relay-style question or a group question

The VC Math Team is coached by Gail Quitoni and Allen Stout
