VCHS Holds Its 61st Commencement in the Morning

VCHS Holds Its 61st Commencement in the Morning

In the midst of a weather forecast of severe thunderstorms, Valley Central High School Principal, Jayme Ginda-Baxter made a decision to move the commencement ceremony to the morning of Saturday, June 29th for the first time in 61 years.

“After having an inside graduation a few years ago, we started to explore what other options we could employ to keep the ceremony outdoors and this seemed to be a viable option.” Said Jayme Ginda-Baxter.

Ginda-Baxter was sure to thank the graduates, their families, the Town of Montgomery Police and the entire VC Community for their flexibility with the change.  The commencement ceremony was held without a hitch. The Town of Montgomery Police were present to help with the increased traffic and parking due to the ceremony.

Over 300 seniors were graduated on Saturday morning. While the weather was warm and humid, the ceremony took place under bright blue skies.  Cheyanne Sharp, Salutatorian of the Class of 2019, compared the class’ growth through high school to the growth rings of a tree- making the point that VCHS has marked them through their experiences which will be carried throughout their lives. Nathan Wasserman, Valedictorian of the class, implored his classmates to face life’s challenges fearlessly as they take over the trajectory of their lives.

From the strains of Pomp and Circumstance to the lively Recessional March, Valley Central celebrated the many accomplishments of the Class of 2019 and wished them well as they begin their separate journeys.
