WES Reopening Procedures 2020-2021

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! We are thrilled to be back in school and can’t wait to get started. As you know, school will look a bit different this year. It is important that we provide you with clear and concise information so you are aware of the logistics of our plan.

Our plan is intended to ensure the safety of our students and staff and continue to provide the high-quality education your children have received in that past at WES.  We will outline arrival/dismissal, lunch, and general hand washing/sanitizing procedures.

“Resilience is based on compassion for ourselves as well as compassion for others.”

WES Reopening Procedures

Arrival

Walker Arrival (Temperatures to be taken daily upon arrival for each student)

  • GRADE – Please indicate your child’s grade upon arrival. This will help greatly in organizing arrival. If space on the lines referenced below are all full, please distance yourself from other family groups on the sidewalk until we are able to receive more students on the line.
  • ONLY ONE – Students will enter one at a time at all entry locations and will report directly to class.
  • FOOD – Breakfast will be “Grab-and-Go” for those who eat breakfast at school. These students will go directly to the cafeteria, get breakfast, then report directly to class.
  • ACCESS – Please note that parents will not be provided access to the playground. Please say goodbye to your little one/bigger one/almost big kid on the sidewalk. We will take care of them as if they were our own!

Kindergarten – Door #2 Entry
(Red Shed on the left side)

Family groups will stand in a line ensuring 6’ separation between groups. Cones will be placed to assist in determining this spacing. Paraprofessionals are stationed at these doors to receive children from the line and will assist in ensuring students find their classroom and teacher.

Paraprofessionals will escort children who eat breakfast at school through Playground #2 to back Door #6 by the cafeteria. After they pick-up their bagged breakfast, they will be escorted to the appropriate classroom.

Grades 1-3 – Door #11 Entry
(Upper Playground #12)

Parents will drop students who will be assisted by staff to line up along the perimeter of the playground spaced 6’ apart. Ribbons will be tied along the fence to facilitate this process.

Breakfast students will be directed down the staircase located immediately inside Door #11 that leads to the cafeteria.

Grade 4 – Door #12 Entry
(upper Playground #12)

Parents will drop students who will be assisted by staff to line up around the interior portion of the playground spaced 6’ apart. Cones will be placed to facilitate this process. Students will be admitted through Door #12.

Breakfast students will be directed to the cafeteria.

Grade 5 – Door #1 (main entrance)

Parents will drop students at the main entrance sidewalk to WES. Both stakes with ribbons along the entry sidewalk and ribbons tied along our fence line along the public sidewalk will facilitate 6’ social distancing. Students will go up the stairs inside the entry and proceed up the staircase closest to their classroom leading to the 3rd floor.

Breakfast students will be directed to the cafeteria.

Bus Arrival (Temperatures to be taken daily upon arrival for each student)

  • ONLY ONE- Students will be let out of each bus, one at a time and upon entry to the building report directly to class.
  • FOOD – Breakfast will be “Grab-and-Go” for those who eat breakfast at school. These students will go directly to the cafeteria, get breakfast, then report directly to class.

Kindergarten & Grade 3 – Door #6 Entry (Cafeteria Door)

Kindergarteners will be directed to the cafeteria and grab breakfast if needed where a paraprofessional will greet and monitor them. They will be seated 6’ feet apart until they are walked to class.

3rd Graders will enter and go directly to class unless they need to grab breakfast first.

Grades 1-2 – Door #8 Entry (lower parking lot door)

Students will go directly to class unless they need to grab breakfast first.

Grade 4 – Door #5 Entry (left back Gym door)

Students will go directly to class unless they need to grab breakfast first.

Grade 5 – Door #3 Entry (right back Gym door)

Students will go directly to class unless they need to grab breakfast first.

Late Students – Front Entry (Door #1)

Please ring the bell and have your ID ready for presentation to the bell camera our Greeter operates. They will then buzz your child in the front door. Please note that parents/visitors are not provided with access to the school building. The Greeter (or designated staff member) will sign your child in and notify the teacher that the child has arrived and is proceeding to class.

We anticipate that these new procedures will take time. Thank you for being patient with our staff!

Student Pickup/Item Drop Off (mid-day)

Please note that parents/visitors may not enter the school building.

Student pickup will function similarly to doctor’s appointments and curbside food delivery.

You will be transferred to our Greeter who will manage retrieving your student from the classroom. Students will be escorted outside to your vehicle. Please have your ID ready for inspection. Student escort will release your child once they have verified your identity.

Pedestrian Pick Up – Please ring the bell at the front door and have your ID ready for presentation to the bell camera our Greeter operates. They will then ask the purpose of your visit. The Greeter will then call for your child to report to the Greeter’s desk with their belongings for dismissal. Students will be dismissed through the front door.
Item Drop Off – Items being dropped off to the building can be left on a small table by the main entrance. Ring the bell and inform the Greeter what you have dropped off and who the item is intended for. The Greeter will retrieve the items and manage delivery to the necessary person and location.

School Tool Update

In SchoolTool we are using a Custom Alert feature to identify the Team each student has been assigned to for the return to school in September.  This Custom Alert feature appears as a flag; hovering over the flag causes the Team name to display.

Team flag assignments can be viewed in the SchoolTool Parent Portal and Student Portal when logged in using:

  • A desktop or laptop computer
  • A mobile device to access the SchoolTool “View Full Site” mobile website

The SchoolTool app does not currently have the ability to display Team flag assignments.
