William Miller Appointed Interim Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources

William Miller was appointed the Interim Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources at the September 29, 2020 Board of Education meeting.  Mr. Miller has been employed by the Valley Central School District since 1999.  He was a physical education teacher for twenty-five years (seventeen years at VC) as well as serving as Department Chairperson for PE and Health at the Middle School.  Most recently, Mr. Miller has been Valley Central’s Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics.  He is well respected by his peers in the district, the county, and Section IX.

The Central Office position was officially vacated on June 30, 2020, with the retirement of Deputy Superintendent, Michael Bellarosa.  Bellarosa now serves in a part-time role as an administrative mentor for the District.  Mr. Bellarosa’s retirement amid the pandemic and reopening of school complicated the search for a replacement as most of the time this summer was dedicated to getting schools ready to be open on the first day of school.  It became apparent that the District not only needed someone in Human Resources quickly as the school year got underway, but also someone familiar with the district.  It was then that Superintendent John Xanthis asked Bill Miller to consider the position on an interim basis.

“Appointing Bill to this position on an interim basis helps the district to quickly have another person who is well qualified filling in a needed position, and allows Bill to see if the position is a good fit for him.  It gives us both the opportunity to try it out. There is an added bonus of a savings of allocated funds which also helps out the District as we face funding uncertainty from the State.  Given the circumstances of the pandemic, it was not only an efficient way to fill the position, but it allowed us to add a solid member to the Central Office team to keep VC moving forward for the entire community.  We are grateful  Mr. Miller was willing to become part of the Central Office team and I am sure Bill will continue to do great things for VC in his new role,” explained Xanthis.
