Position: Director of Data Accountability & Instructional Services 

About us:  Valley Central is a school district of almost 4,200 students and approximately 1,000 full- and part-time staff situated mainly in the Town of Montgomery, New York, with its three villages of Maybrook, Montgomery, and Walden. Students also come from the adjacent areas of the towns of Newburgh, Crawford, Wallkill, Hamptonburgh, and New Windsor. Four elementary schools, an alternative learning center, one middle school, and one high school make up the district.

 Role Description We are seeking a dynamic and experienced educational leader to serve as the Director of Data Accountability and Instructional Services. This is a district-level administrative position responsible for leading data-driven decision making processes; overseeing all aspects of New York State Testing (Grades 3-12), including ELA, Math, Science, Regents, and NYSESLAT; and supporting the implementation and alignment of Academic Intervention Services (AIS) and the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) across the district. The Director will work closely with the New York State Education Department, district administration, and the Regional Information Center (RIC) to ensure compliance with and accuracy in all program and data reporting requirements. 

Reports to:  Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction

 Qualifications:

  • Valid NYS Certification as a School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA)

  • Minimum of 5 years of successful experience in educational leadership, including experience with data analysis and instructional support systems (preferred)

  • Deep understanding of NYS assessments, data systems, AIS, and MTSS frameworks

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders of diverse backgrounds– including administrators, teachers, staff, parents, guardians, and students– and lead continuous improvement initiatives

Desired Experience 

  • Demonstrated student-centered leadership and success in complex and evolving educational environments  

  • Strong understanding of curriculum development, instructional strategies, and assessment practices across K-12

  • Ability to analyze and interpret data trends to inform recommendations for instructional and programmatic improvements

  • Experience effectively presenting and communicating aggregated data to a wide range of stakeholders in support clear and transparent communication, planning and accountability

Duties & Responsibilities:

Data Accountability

  1. Coordinate and oversee the administration, scoring, and reporting of all NYS assessments (Grades 3–12), including ELA, Math, Science, Regents, NYSAA and NYSESLAT

  2. Collaborate with the Regional Information Center (RIC) to ensure timely and accurate submission of state data reports and student information

  3. Provide test administration information to district staff, administration and the Board of Education

  4. Specify user access levels for assessment and demographic databases

  5. Monitor and manage state and federal accountability reporting, including but not limited to BEDS, attendance, staff assignments, and student enrollment data

  6. Monitor databases for errors and ensures the integrity of student and staff information systems

  7. Analyze data to identify trends, monitor growth, and support continuous improvement efforts across the district 

  8. Present aggregated data and reports in clear and accessible formats to a variety of stakeholders, including administrators, staff, and the Board of Education

  9. Collaborate and build data literacy across the district by supporting educators and leaders (and other stakeholders) in using data to inform instruction 

  10. Perform other such related duties as assigned by the Superintendent

Instructional Services

  1. Stay current on educational research and trends through professional learning, reading, and networking

  2. Collaborate with school and district administrators, including Central Office Administration, in organizing and implementing professional development for designated instructional and non-instructional staff

  3. Oversee the design, implementation, and effectiveness of AIS programs to support student growth and achievement

  4. Supervise AIS teachers, including conducting observations (of assigned instructional or non-instructional staff), providing feedback, and supporting professional growth

  5. Hold regular meetings with AIS staff to review student progress, share best practices, and ensure alignment with district goals

  6. Support the implementation of a comprehensive and sustainable MTSS framework aligned with district goals and student needs 

  7. Collaborate with school leaders, interventionists, and instructional staff to monitor student progress and adjust supports as needed

  8. Provide professional development related to intervention strategies, instructional decision-making, and progress monitoring tools

  9. Ensure alignment of AIS and MTSS initiatives and practices with the district’s Strategic Plan and school improvement plans

  10. Perform other such related duties as assigned by the Superintendent

Salary: Commensurate with experience and aligned with Valley Central’s administrative contract

The Valley Central School District currently has one position open for elementary assistant principal.  The assistant principal will help spearhead our efforts to ensure high academic standards with a focus on the social-emotional needs of all students. This individual will be an expert of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, inclusive of technology integration, co- teaching strategies and differentiation to meet individual student needs. This individual will be an exceptional manager, motivating leader, and a strong relationship builder, who has demonstrated exceptional outcomes in a similarly mission-aligned school setting.  We are looking for a leader that believes in equity and has the capacity to lead students, adults, and teams to audacious outcomes that foster a love of learning in our students. The leader should have a keen instructional and school culture eye, and a toolbox to manage change, gain trust and work collaboratively with the school leadership team’s vision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment

• Works collaboratively with the building principal to assess current curriculum and instructional practices, identify resources to support academic, social-emotional and technology needs, and has a firm understanding of Google suite and its uses. 

• Foster connections between academic learning, the community, and the natural world

• Organizes the work of teacher teams and creates ongoing opportunities for shared leadership regarding protocols, team leader roles, and collaborative strategies. 

• Develop and monitor schoolwide assessment systems for multiple academic areas that includes pre assessments, and interim assessments. Has the ability to analyze data and connect it to instructional next steps that move adult practice and student outcomes.

Staff Development

• Assist in creating a professional community that focuses on instruction and assessment as the primary vehicles for improving student achievement and school culture.

• Leads colleagues in their professional growth through modeling effective practices, articulating connections between instructional choices and student outcomes, coaching, observing instruction, and providing actionable feedback. 

• Motivate teachers to continue to develop their content knowledge and instructional repertoire, and to provide the resources needed for them to do so.

School Culture

• Assist in building a school culture that evidences high expectations for courtesy, respect, compassion and an intellectually engaged environment for both students and adults.

• Ensure a safe, supportive, and productive environment for students, staff and families.

• Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

• Model effective instructional practices in staff meetings, professional development sessions and team meetings.

• Cultivate strong partnerships with community organizations and regional/national partners.

• Oversee extra-curricular activities and after school programs.

• Cultivate strong partnerships with community organizations and regional/national partners.

• Implement behavior/discipline modification plans for grade group cohorts in conjunction with the guidance counselor and other school personnel.

• Other duties as determined by the principal.

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

• A Master’s Degree in Education, New York State Certification SAS or SBL, and a minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching and/or two years of previous experience in leadership 

• Experience with restorative practices, culturally responsive, and sustaining pedagogy, trauma informed practices, and have strong beliefs in social-emotional learning values
