ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in creating a professional community that focuses on instruction and assessment as the primary vehicles for improving student achievement and school culture.
  • Leads colleagues in their professional growth through modeling effective practices, articulating connections between instructional choices and student outcomes, coaching, observing instruction, and providing actionable feedback. 
  • Motivate teachers to continue to develop their content knowledge and instructional repertoire, and to provide the resources needed for them to do so.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  •  A Master’s Degree in Education, New York State Certification SAS or SBL, and a minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching and/or two years of previous experience in leadership 
  • Experience with restorative practices, culturally responsive, and sustaining pedagogy, trauma informed practices, and have strong beliefs in social-emotional learning values

Pre-K

  • Manage all aspects of the Universal PreK Program and Grant with our Community Based Organizations.
  • Conduct regular assessments and evaluations of the program’s effectiveness, using data to inform program improvements.
  • Assist in building strong partnerships with parents, community members, and other stakeholders to support student learning and well-being including conducting parent information sessions.
  • Ensure the program complies with all relevant regulations, including local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Assist with budget, grant writing, reporting, and compliance for UPK funding sources.
  • Manage enrollment data, track student progress, and generate reports as needed.
  • Collaborate with our elementary schools to ensure a smooth transition for incoming kindergarten students.

Teacher Mentor Opportunities-All Buildings

Title: Valley Central Teacher Mentor
Role Description:
We are seeking passionate and dedicated Teacher Mentors to join our pool of district mentors that may be assigned mentees during the ‘25 – ‘26 and/or ‘26 – ‘27 school years, based on district and mentee needs. Our mentor team supports the growth and development of our teaching staff. As a Teacher Mentor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the success of our educators by providing guidance, training, and support. You will work closely with both new and experienced teachers to enhance their teaching skills, foster professional growth and interpersonal relationships, as well as create a positive learning environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in education, excellent communication skills, and a genuine desire to empower others.
Note: All those appointed to the pool of district mentors will be considered when making mentor/mentee assignments so that pairings best support new teachers when possible.
Duties & Responsibilities:
● Mentorship: Provide ongoing guidance, support, and encouragement to assigned mentees, helping them navigate challenges and leverage opportunities to help them improve their instructional pedagogy and classroom practice.
● Training and Development: Work with mentees to identify professional goals, interests, and areas for growth. Develop and facilitate training sessions, workshops, and professional development to enhance teachers’ knowledge and expertise in various areas of education that include topics outlined in the mentoring program section of the district’s professional learning plan.
● Curriculum Support: Assist teachers in developing and implementing effective lesson plans, instructional strategies, and assessment methods to meet the needs of diverse learners.
● Resource Sharing: Share educational resources, teaching materials, and best practices with mentees to enhance their instructional repertoire and enrich student learning experiences.
● Collaboration: Collaborate with school leadership, fellow mentors, colleagues and/or community members to coordinate mentorship initiatives, align teaching practices, and promote a culture of continuous improvement. Foster connections and collaborations with educational experts, organizations, and community partners to stay abreast of current trends, research, and innovations in education. 
● Teacher Support: Serve as a resource and sounding board for teachers, offering guidance, encouragement, and practical solutions to address challenges, overcome obstacles, foster positive relationships and a supportive working environment. Serve as an advocate and ally for mentees, advocating for their professional needs, interests, and well-being within the school community and beyond. Facilitate reflective discussions and self-assessment activities with mentees to promote reflective practices.

Qualifications: Must be tenured VC Faculty in good standing to apply.

Title: Department Chair- Middle School and High School Faculty

Role Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced, highly effective teacher to take on the role of Department Chair. This person will serve as a member of the Ed Council Team and oversee curriculum development and pedagogical practices that result in interpersonal connections, culturally relevant learning experiences, and equity and access to high-quality instruction for all students. The Department Chair will be responsible for leading and managing the department, supporting faculty development, and ensuring high academic standards.

8. Maintains a maximum of 5 classes with one building supervisory duty (as per contract), determined by the principal, while modeling and supporting department members in culturally responsive classrooms and parent/community outreach strategies.
9. In collaboration with building administration, supervises and manages the development of department budget proposals and the ordering and distribution of supplies, equipment, and technology needs.
10. Leads departmental meetings and professional development that model culturally responsive, standards-based practices, and instructional priorities, and supports curriculum and accessibility in a differentiated learning environment by maintaining relationships with local, regional, and national associations of teachers of their respective subjects.
11. Regularly shares in-service/professional development opportunities
12. Collaborates with the principal and guidance department in the process of appropriate student and teacher scheduling.
13. Leads regular reviews of the curriculum in the department to ensure vertical continuity and alignment of content, skills, and assessment with the school’s mission and vision.
14. Attends cross-departmental meetings to encourage interdisciplinary connections in teaching and learning.
15. With the support of building administration, lead in the interpretation and analysis of all local, state, and national testing, as well as impact of planning and scheduling.

Summer School Administrators (Principals and Assistant Principals)

Role Description: We are seeking dynamic and experienced Summer School Administrators (Principal and Assistant Principal) to lead and manage our secondary summer school program. These administrators will oversee the planning, implementations, and evaluation of the program, ensuring a safe, engaging, and academically enriching environment for students. The summer school administrators should possess strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills to coordinate staff, support students, and foster a positive educational experience.
Reports to: The Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction

Qualifications:
• Valid SBL certification
• Minimum of four of teaching experience
• Strong understanding of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Proven ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with people of diverse backgrounds including administrators, teachers, staff, parents, guardians, and students
• Commitment to fostering student success and well-being

Desired Experience:
• Experience supervising summer school or similar programs
• Experience in secondary curriculum development and instructional practices
• Familiarity with MTSS and interventions that support at-risk students

Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Review and familiarize self with updated NYS Summer School Handbook
2. Prepares summer school calendar and schedules
3. Collaborate with C&I and Business Office to manage summer school budget
4. Responsible for collaborating with building administrators, C&I, and HR to conduct interviews for all summer positions including Regents proctors and graders
5. Collaborate and assist counselors with registration and scheduling of students
6. Effectively communicate with parents, students and staff about program information, daily schedule, Code of Conduct, attendance requirements and any pertinent information for summer school
7. Assist in the development and update of the Valley Central Summer School Handbook
8. Collaborate with C&I to oversee summer school curriculum and ensure materials have been ordered and ready for distribution prior to summer school beginning
9. Plan and facilitate a staff orientation prior to summer school beginning
10. Monitor staff attendance and acquire substitute teachers for coverages as needed
11. Daily oversight of middle school and high school instruction, classroom management, food service (if applicable), entry and dismissal of students, parental communication, and health and medical concerns of students (if applicable)
12. Follow all safety procedures according to building safety plan as well as conduct required summer school evacuation drills
13. Responsible for supervision of all students and attendance monitoring. Document student enrollment and attendance regularly as well as address attendance concerns as needed.
14. Addresses student concerns and behaviors in a timely manner in accordance with the Code of Conduct and take appropriate disciplinary action if necessary
15. Administration and oversight of finals and/or Regents exams, as well as the coordination of such testing modifications and scheduling of proctors. This includes assisting counselors in identifying and scheduling students for Regents.
16. Provide student academic information to staff as necessary while adhering to all FERPA regulations
17. Present final program summary presentation to the Board of Education
