    Assistant Principal – Elementary 

    The Valley Central School District currently has two positions open for elementary assistant principal.  The assistant principal will help spearhead our efforts to ensure high academic standards with a focus on the social-emotional needs of all students. This individual will be an expert of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, inclusive of technology integration, co- teaching strategies and differentiation to meet individual student needs. This individual will be an exceptional manager, motivating leader, and a strong relationship builder, who has demonstrated exceptional outcomes in a similarly mission-aligned school setting.  We are looking for a leader that believes in equity and has the capacity to lead students, adults, and teams to audacious outcomes that foster a love of learning in our students. The leader should have a keen instructional and school culture eye, and a toolbox to manage change, gain trust and work collaboratively with the school leadership team’s vision.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

    Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment

    • Works collaboratively with the building principal to assess current curriculum and instructional practices, identify resources to support academic, social-emotional and technology needs, and has a firm understanding of Google suite and its uses. 
    • Foster connections between academic learning, the community, and the natural world
    • Organizes the work of teacher teams and creates ongoing opportunities for shared leadership regarding protocols, team leader roles, and collaborative strategies. 
    • Develop and monitor schoolwide assessment systems for multiple academic areas that includes pre assessments, and interim assessments. Has the ability to analyze data and connect it to instructional next steps that move adult practice and student outcomes.

    Staff Development

    • Assist in creating a professional community that focuses on instruction and assessment as the primary vehicles for improving student achievement and school culture.
    • Leads colleagues in their professional growth through modeling effective practices, articulating connections between instructional choices and student outcomes, coaching, observing instruction, and providing actionable feedback. 
    • Motivate teachers to continue to develop their content knowledge and instructional repertoire, and to provide the resources needed for them to do so.

    • Assist in building strong partnerships with parents, community members, and other stakeholders to support student learning and well-being including conducting parent information sessions.
    • Ensure the program complies with all relevant regulations, including local, state, and federal requirements.
    • Assist with budget, grant writing, reporting, and compliance for UPK funding sources.
    • Manage enrollment data, track student progress, and generate reports as needed.
    • Collaborate with our elementary schools to ensure a smooth transition for incoming kindergarten students.

    QUALIFICATIONS 

    •  A Master’s Degree in Education, New York State Certification SAS or SBL, and a minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching and/or two years of previous experience in leadership 
    • Experience with restorative practices, culturally responsive, and sustaining pedagogy, trauma informed practices, and have strong beliefs in social-emotional learning values

    2025-2026 Extracurricular Postions

    District

    District Event Photographers (DEP) are needed for the 2025-2026 school year.  Five (5) positions will be appointed. 

    Successful candidates for DEP: 

    1. Possess a working knowledge of a DSLR Canon EOS Rebel Camera including shooting modes/functions, changing lens, and proper care of the camera. (Camera with 18-55 mm lens and a 75-300 mm lens, shoulder bag, memory card, and reader, tripod, and other equipment provided by district)

    2. Know how to retrieve photos from memory cards. 

    3. Understand photographic composition

    4. Adept at photo editing in Google Photo

    5. Good working knowledge of Google Suite, in particular, Google Photo and Google Sheets

    6. Capable of working with technology

    Assignments are posted on a shared Google Sheet. DEPs are expected to photograph events throughout the district as needed, with a calendar system/spreadsheet provided to select events. (about 5-7 events per month).  DEPs are not assigned to any one building in particular. Assigned events are generally outside of the school day and will include weekends and at times, travel outside of the district (i.e. Senior Ball coverage).

    DEPs photograph assignments and then are expected to edit their 20 best photographs that capture the essence of the event. These photos are shared in a Google Drive with the District’s Communications department within 24-48 hours of the event. All photographs and videos are considered District property for any usage and copyright purposes exclusively.  Due to FERPA, photographs may not be shared outside of District use.
