V. NYSED Initiatives Alignment

Page last modified: 06/08/2026

  1.  How will the district’s use of instructional technology support a comprehensive and sustained effort to improve student performance and academic standards, while also addressing the need to provide equitable learning opportunities “everywhere, all the time” (National Technology Plan)?
    • Leveraging Technology for Equitable and Sustained Student Success at VCSD
      • At Valley Central School District, our approach to instructional technology is rooted in the belief that digital tools must be intentionally aligned with our academic standards to provide equitable learning opportunities for all students. Through our 2026-2029 Instructional Technology Plan, we are committed to building a sustainable ecosystem that supports teaching, safeguards our community, and empowers student learning.
To achieve a comprehensive and sustained effort to improve student performance, our strategy focuses on three goals:

              • Goal 1. Valley Central School District will maintain the student 1:1 Chromebook initiative through scheduled refresh cycles and a reduction in preventable Chromebook damage.
We are committed to ensure technology provides multiple pathways to access learning regardless of a student’s location. Device access for all students is our first priority.

                • Sustaining the 1:1 Initiative: Valley Central School District will maintain the student 1:1 Chromebook initiative through scheduled  refresh cycles. This ensures every student has reliable access to digital curriculum and the ability to demonstrate their understanding of skills and concepts both at school and at home.
                • Long-Term Financial Sustainability: We are proactively addressing the long-term viability of this program by budgeting appropriately with consideration of rising costs.
                • Short-Term Asset Protection: To reduce preventable Chromebook damage and keep devices in the hands of our students, we are investing in hardshell Chromebook cases.
                • Student Responsibility: We are pairing our hardware investments with student education on Chromebook care to foster a culture of digital responsibility.
              • Goal 2. Develop a framework for the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence for Valley Central School District.
Technology is only as effective as the educators wielding it. To deeply integrate technology into teaching and learning, we are focusing on the emerging role of Artificial Intelligence.

                • Strategic AI Integration: We will develop a framework for the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence for Valley Central School District.
                • Guided by Stakeholders: The deployment of these tools will be thoughtfully guided by an AI Committee and supported by Policy development.
                • Empowering Practice: To measure and facilitate how teachers use technology to enhance their practice, we are launching an AI Software Pilot. This will allow teachers to differentiate instruction, design multiple pathways for learning, and streamline their workflows.
                • Professional Development: The pilot will be heavily supported by targeted Professional Development, ensuring our staff has a partnership with technology and confidence to leverage these advanced tools effectively.
                • AI Literacy for Students: As our educators model the responsible and ethical use of AI in their practice, they will simultaneously empower students to develop critical AI literacy. Teaching students how to thoughtfully and responsibly leverage these emerging technologies is essential to ensure they are fully prepared for post-secondary education and the modern workforce.
              • Goal 3. Enhance our comprehensive district-wide cybersecurity and physical safety through professional development, software applications, and hardware.
Academic improvement requires a safe, uninterrupted learning environment. Our infrastructure must protect the data and well-being of our students and staff.

                • Cyber Infrastructure: We are deploying advanced cybersecurity tools to protect our network and ensure that digital learning pathways remain open and uncompromised.
                • Continuous Training: We are mandating staff training to build human capacity around digital security awareness.
                • Physical Safety: Physical safety is supported through S.H.E.L.L protocols managed digitally with speakers, cameras, and phone system to maintain a secure campus environment conducive to learning.
        • By maintaining a financially sustainable 1:1 environment, pioneering the responsible integration of AI into teacher practice, and rigorously defending our digital and physical infrastructure, VCSD is ensuring that our technology ecosystem comprehensively supports student performance and equitable access now and into the future.
