On Oct. 8, fifth-graders at Walden Elementary kicked off their third year of Trout in the Classroom by welcoming 184 brown trout eggs! Over the next several months, students will take on the role of scientists as they monitor water quality, feed the trout, maintain the tank, and collect data to track their growth and development.
The program provides hands-on learning opportunities connected to science and math standards, including life cycles, Earth’s systems, ecosystems, and human impacts on the environment. The experience will culminate in early April, when students release the surviving trout into a local watershed, helping them develop a greater understanding of environmental conservation and the importance of protecting our waterways.
