2150- Unexpired Term Fulfillment

Vacancies, other than those due to the expiration of a Board member’s term of office, on the Board of Education may occur by reason of death, resignation, removal from office or from the school district, or refusal to serve, of any member or officer of the Board. With regard to such vacancies, the Board has the following options:

  1. The Board may, by majority vote, appoint a qualified person to fill the vacancy. The person so appointed in the place of any such member of the Board shall hold his/her office until the next annual election of Board members; or
  2. The Board may call a special election to fill such a vacancy within 90 days after it occurs. A person elected to fill a vacancy takes office immediately after election, upon filing the oath of office, to fill the remainder of the term; or
  3. The Board may take no action. However, if the vacancy remains unfilled after 90 days, the District Superintendent may fill it by appointment.
