5154.1- Placement Decisions

Grade placement shall be the responsibility of the Building Principal and shall be based on general achievement, with consideration to be given to the mental, physical, emotional, and social maturity of the child.

The Superintendent of Schools or designee shall be responsible for the evaluation of new entrants to the school district to determine special needs, i.e. disability, giftedness and/or limited English proficiency. Such screening shall be in conformity with the laws of the State of New York and the Commissioner’s Regulations.

In general, students transferring into the school district will be placed at the same grade level as in the school from which they transferred. However, they may be retained or advanced in grade at the Building Principal’s discretion.
