Teacher Substitute Rate of Pay
Certified Substitute Teachers: $115/day
Retired VC Teachers $135/day
Non-Certified Substitute Teachers: $110/day
Non-Certified Substitutes need to have completed 60 college credit hours.
Per Diem Placement: Pay is increased for certified teacher subs who sub in long-term per diem placements. After 90 days of subbing for the same teacher, a certified sub may be appointed as a leave replacement and will be paid per diem according to the appropriate salary VCTA Teachers’ contract.
Other VC Substitute Rates of Pay
Substitute RN: $150/day
COTA/PTA Substitute: $105 full day/ $52.50 half day
Substitute Paraprofessional: $15/hour
Substitute Food Service Worker: $15.61/ hour
Substitute Custodial Worker: $15.00/ hour
Home Tutor’s Rate of Pay
Home Tutor: $48/ hour
Substitutes may also choose to do Home Tutoring. Home Tutors are needed to service students who are not able to attend school for various reasons. Home Tutors meet with students at their homes with an adult present to work on assignments from the student’s teachers.
How to Apply to be a VC Substitute/Home Tutor
In order to be considered for employment, you must be fingerprinted through the New York State Department of Education and your complete substitute application packet must include the following:
1) Letter of interest indicating what position(s) you are applying for
2) Resume
3) Valley Central Substitute/Home Tutor Application for Employment
4) Three (3) letters of Professional Reference (phone # and email address included) Please be sure that your references include their email addresses. This will expedite our reference process.
5) Transcripts / Certification – if you are applying to be a Substitute Teacher and/or Home Tutor we will also need a copy of your college transcripts (and certification if applicable)
6) Fingerprint Clearance
7) Civil Service Application (for non-instructional employees i.e. Paraprofessional, Food Service, Custodial positions)
All documents requested should be mailed and/or dropped off to our Central Office @ 944 State Route 17K; Montgomery, NY 12549 to the attention of Marlene Marcano – PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL ANY REQUIRED DOCUMENTS; it will not be considered, as we will require original signatures and hard copies.
If you have not heard back from us within 2 weeks of submitting your VC Application Packet, please feel free to reach out a second time, but in most cases this shouldn’t be necessary!
