Requests for Alternate Transportation Within the District and Transportation to Private School

Request for Alternate Transportation Within the District

An alternate pick-up/drop-off is identified as any request for transportation to or from an address that is not the home address identified in SchoolTool for a given student.  If there is shared custody, an Alternate Pickup/Drop-off form must be filled out for the second residence.

Pursuant to Section 3635(1) of the Education Law, all requests for special transportation outside of the student’s school attendance zone are due to the District Office no later than April 1st of the previous year.

Certified Day Care must be used for any request outside of the student’s school attendance zone.

For requests for alternative transportation for the 2023-2024 school year, please contact the transportation office.

Other Guidelines for Alternate Pickup or Drop-off within the District

Alternate pickup/drop-off requests must be consistent week to week.  For example, if a pick up and/or drop-off is requested for a different address on Tuesdays and Thursdays, it must be the same for every Tuesday and Thursday.

There must be room on the bus that is being requested.

Once an alternate pickup/drop-off is completed, the only other change allowed for the current school year would be in the case of moving into a new home within the district or back to the legal home address.

Alternate pickup/drop-offs can not be to another school within the district.

Only one change per year is allowed.

Requests for Transportation to a Private School

Pursuant to Section 3635(1) of the Education Law, all requests for  transportation are due to the District Office by April 1st of the preceding school year or within 30 days of moving into the district.

For Non-Public Transportation, a current proof of address must accompany the request for transportation each year.

All students living in the Valley Central School District, whether attending private or public schools, must be registered through the district’s Registrar’s office. If you have a new student, you must contact the Registrar’s office at 845-457-2400 x18130. We can not process your request for transportation until the Registrar has verified your child’s information.

Valley Central will provide transportation for pupils enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 8 who live more than two miles from the school they attend and pupils enrolled in grades 9-12 who live more than three miles from the school they attend up to a distance of 15 miles.

Residency Verification Form

In order to provide private school students access to public school materials and services, and to ensure compliance with state regulations and mandates, the district is required to receive an annual verification of residency from each “no busing” student.

If your student does not have a District ID number, please contact our Registrar at 845-457-2400 x18130. A District ID number is required in order to participate in any of these programs.  Please fill out the below Residency Verification Form to verify residency for the 2022-2023 school year.
