From Guidance: Junior/Seniors~Opportunity to Apply for Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute

ATTENTION JUNIORS AND SENIORS:

CONSIDER APPLYING FOR the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute.

PR/HYLI’s goals, beyond student empowerment, include:

-The development of leadership skills in Latino/Hispanic Youth;

-The creation of opportunities for Latino/Hispanic students to interact with positive role models such as Puerto Rican/Latino elected officials, educators, and business leaders;

-The creation of partnerships and conversations among educators, business leaders and students, and

-The development of an in-depth knowledge of the state legislative process.

Students who are accepted into the program attend training sessions in the Hudson Valley Region from December to March. Here, students have the opportunity to learn about leadership, community advocacy, and the legislative process in New York State.

These sessions culminate in a virtual weekend Institute from March 13-14, 2021. Hundreds of students from across New York State will come together virtually for a weekend of leadership and advocacy. Those selected will also participate in a virtual mock assembly. Seniors also have an opportunity to submit an essay for a scholarship award.
