Letter to Families from Superintendent

January 2023

Greetings Valley Central Families,

Happy New Year! I wish you good health, much joy and prosperity in the New Year. I wanted to take the time to provide you with the opportunity to learn more about me and my first week.

I am extremely honored to be the Superintendent of Valley Central School District. I am incredibly excited to work collaboratively with such a talented, dedicated staff, and an active community and families to inspire and support all students.

I have a relentless passion to ensure that all students have an exceptional education. Serving school communities for over 30 years, I understand the importance of cultivating meaningful relationships that foster a collective commitment to excellence, providing differentiated professional learning opportunities to empower everyone in the school community and how all voices from the District and community are instrumental in shaping the future.

It is my goal that we continue to build on the strong foundation and success of the District while creating innovative opportunities for our students to excel. I am deeply committed to setting the conditions for an inclusive culture that supports continuous improvement, ensures every school is an inspirational caring community that is dedicated to instilling values that promotes respect for all people, develops critical thinkers, nurtures a love for learning and where families and students are actively engaged as partners in the learning process.

In December, I was able to visit each building to meet staff and students. It was great to see teaching and learning in action. I was impressed with how students were engaged and the nurturing culture and climate. I will continue to regularly visit schools and attend events to celebrate our students, show my VC pride and encourage students to be Viking Strong.

This week I spent time becoming familiar with the VC way, meeting with community partners, the PTA Council, elementary principals, Central Office staff and working on the budget process. The VC community is extremely supportive and welcoming.

Information on the 2023-2024 school budget process will be shared and discussed at Board of Education meetings beginning on Monday, January 9th through April 17th. Board meetings are open to the public and will be streamed online, as well. We invite the members of the community to observe these meetings, view the budget presentations, and offer feedback as the 2023-2024 budget is developed. Please mark your calendars and plan to vote on May 16th.

I am truly dedicated to the mission of Valley Central School District. I will apply myself diligently to earn the trust and respect of each and every one of you. We will build upon the existing foundation to maintain safe, and innovative learning environments, increase the achievement levels of all students, expand the knowledge base of all staff, ensure members of our community are lifelong learners and problem solvers each and every day.

Working together in unity, we will remain loyal to our purpose, serve our students and community in a magnificent way, influence progress to support our students in successfully achieving and significantly contributing to this global, complex changing world.

I look forward to our journey together. Have a great weekend.

With warm regards,
Evette Avila
