May is National Water Safety Month! Together, let’s increase water safety within our Valley Central community!
According to the American Red Cross: “(Drowning) only takes a moment. A child or weak swimmer can drown in the time it takes to reply to a text, check a fishing line or apply sunscreen”
Things You Can Do to Get Involved in Educating Yourself and Your Children:
- Assure every member of your family learns water competency and basic water skills such as entering safely, changing positions, floating, and treading water.
- Employ the layers of protection surrounding aquatic environments including gates and physical barriers, life jackets, and swimming with lifeguards on duty/supervision.
- Know how to respond to an emergency in an aquatic environment, and educate yourself and your children. This includes how to save someone without putting yourself in danger, how to call EMS, and taking CPR courses.
