Superintendent’s Message- April 5, 2024

Valley Central Community,

As you may be aware, the tri-state area experienced an earthquake today, April 5, 2024. All buildings have been inspected and sustained no damage. All staff and students were safe.

During this event, the administration at Walden Elementary School decided to evacuate the building. All staff and students were relocated to Most Precious Blood Church and dismissed early. Due to the evacuation, a structural engineer examined the building and has confirmed it to be safe and regular building operations have resumed. The school will be open from 8:00am-10:00am tomorrow, Saturday, April 6th, for any parent that would like to pick up their child’s belongings.

Today we came together as one team, one district. We are thankful to our district wide administrative teams, faculty, staff, students, First Student Bus Company, our local law enforcement and fire department for their cooperation and prompt responsiveness. I also want to thank Most Precious Blood for its flexibility, generosity and community spirit in welcoming our Walden students during this unusual circumstance. Their hospitality is warmly appreciated.

As always, the safety of our students, staff and school community is our number one priority.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the building’s principal.

With gratitude,

Superintendent Avila
