Applications Being Accepted for the District’s Racial and Social Equity Committee

PARENTS, STUDENTS, COMMUNITY, AND STAFF INVITED TO APPLY FOR THE RACIAL AND SOCIAL EQUITY COMMITTEE

Applications are being accepted for the District’s Racial and Social Equity Committee until 5 PM on Thursday, June 2, 2022.

This advisory committee was established by the Board of Education with the goal to drive accountability for our schools with respect to the fair and inclusive treatment of all students. The committee meets every other month during the school year to help guide the district’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts with regard to professional development, curriculum, school climate, and staffing.

The committee is composed of four students, six parents and community members, four teachers, two non-instructional staff members, four administrators, the Superintendent of Schools, and a Board of Education representative.

The District is now accepting applications for the following seats on the committee (unless otherwise noted, members appointed to the committee serve two-year terms):

  • three parents, community members, or recent graduates

  • three students currently in grades 7-11

  • one high school teacher (one-year term)

  • one middle school teacher

  • one elementary teacher

  • one non-instructional secondary staff member

  • one non-instructional elementary staff member (one-year term)

Applications will be reviewed anonymously by a panel of students and staff, who will then vote for their preferred applicants. If you would like to join the committee, please submit an online application before the 5 PM deadline on June 2, 2022. Current members whose terms have expired may re-apply to serve another term.

The committee’s bi-monthly meetings will take place on Tuesday evenings from 6 PM-7:30 PM.
